1976: A contract to refurbish and rebuilt 52 briges damaged by the civil war in Angola is awarded to Empresa Cubana de Construcciones the forerunner of UNECA.
1978: The Unión de Empresas Constructora Caribe, also known as UNECA, is established as a spin-off of Empresa Cubana de Construcciones.
1979: UNECA commences the construction of the international airport of Point Salines, Grenada, iconic work interrupted by the US-led military invasion of 1985.
UNECA commences the execution of the so called Coffee Route and the New Mugher Cement factory in Ethiopia.
UNECA starts a multi-million program of works in Libya, completed at large by 1984 although some works continued until 1987. The program comprised among others the difficult Al-Araneb – Al-Gatrum road, 182 km across the Sahara desert.
1980: UNECA commences the execution of a vast program of works in Nicaragua, completed by 1990, which included among others the Atlantic Road and the upgrading of Managua’ international airport.
1984: UNECA is incorporated as a company limited by shares, legal status kept until today and since then is known as Corporación UNECA, S.A. or in short UNECA, S.A.
UNECA commences to render labor force or manpower hiring services for the first time to the French company Fillod, s.r.l. in Algeria.
1985: UNECA involves for the first time in the tourist development in its home country: Cuba, commencing a fifteen years period of intensive hotels and resorts construction with over 23’000 hotel rooms built or refurbished all along the island.
1992: The Compañía Constructora Siboney, S.A. in short Siboney, S.A., is incorporated as a subsidiary of UNECA, to manage the remaining overseas projects and interests of the latter (UNECA).
1999: Siboney, S.A. enters into an agreement with the Spanish company IMASATEC, S.A. to provide labor force services, contract assigned to UNECA in 2001, starting a decade of fruitful cooperation by which dozens of buildings were competed in Spain.
2000: UNECA makes the decision to come back to the international market and reorganizes itself for such a purpose.
2001: UNECA commences to render technical and professional assistance to the Provincial Government of Gauteng, South Africa in the mass housing sector.
Siboney, S.A. changes its main activity to the trading of building materials and construction technologies.
2003: UNECA commences to render technical and professional assistance directly to the Department of Housing (nowadays Human Settlements) in South Africa implementing an Intergovernmental Agreement derived from the successful execution of the agreement with Gauteng Provincial Government.
As part of a restructuring process, consequence of a failure in a major project in Algeria, UNECA divested from all its interests in Cuba which were transferred to the company Constructora Caribe, established upon UNECA’ assets.
2008: UNECA commences to render technical and professional assistance to the Department of Public Works in South Africa implementing an Intergovernmental Agreement signed in 2007, derived from the successful execution of the agreement with the Department of Housing.
2009: The company Hotelera Parque, S.A. with Grupo Cubanacán calls UNECA back home to take over the completion of the works for the luxurious Hotel Parque Central Annex, semi-paralyzed and delayed for over five years.
UNECA takes over the works and managed to handover and put to service the first stage of the hotel by December 2009 after barely four months of work.
